Adding an opportunity

The ability for purchasers of training to post opportunities is one of the key features of the TrainerBase web site. This facility is FREE and this help file is intended to make the process quicker and easier.

There are 2 systems on the TrainerBase web site:

  • the Open system and

  • the TOMS

Below is an explanation of the field headings and how an advertiser can benefit from using them well.

The Open system

The Open system is like any other jobs board, all elements of a posted opportunity are visible and a trainer wishing to make an application contacts the advertiser direct.

  • Title: * - this is the title/name of the opportunity (e.g. Project management freelance trainers required)

  • Type: * - this explains what the opportunity is and the level of expectation

    • A Tender is for a real job by virtue of an existing training requirement. The requirement may be directly with the advertiser or be a contract between the advertiser and its client;
    • A Prospect is for a real job for which the advertiser has an identified possible future need, e.g. the advertiser is bidding or tendering to a potential or existing client;
    • A Capability Build is indicative of an advertiser seeking to grow trainer capability in new or existing areas and as such carries no indication of a job or work being available;
    • Expression of Interest is to source likely providers of training service and may or may not be for a particular identified need. An EOI is a preliminary step and in itself does not constitute a tender submission.
    • A Business Proposition (BSP) is an invitation to enquire about a business related offer which may require an investement that may result in a commercial return. This includes; distributor/agency offers, exhibition sharing or project development partnerships.
    • A Term of Employment (TOE) is for work opportunities, full, part time and temporary, where the company will contract the individual as an employee, through the company payroll system. (These opportunities require membership to access but do not require a subscription to read).
    • A Brokered lead (BKL) is for a contract opportunity that has been sourced by the TrainerBase team and invitations to tender are posted, managed and selected by TrainerBase. (These opportunities do not require a subscription to read, but the lack of a viewable profile may compromise the brokerage teams ability to evaluate a member's suitability. Applying for a Brokered lead commits a member to pay commission of no more than 15% on successful contracts during the first 12 months of engagement).
  • Classification: * - this describes the advertisers position

    • Direct - the contact is for delivery of training to the advertisers own staff

    • Associate - the contract is for delivery of training to the advertisers client's staff

    • Agent - the advertiser is posting a contract on behalf of another organisation and is not involved as a training business

  • Display From: * - this is the date from which the opportunity will be displayed

  • Display Until: (leave blank if no removal date required) - this is the date until which the opportunity will remain on the system. If 05/09/09 is put in this field the opportunity will remain on the site up to and including 04/09/09 but will no longer be visible on the 5th.

  • Description: *  - this is the description of the opportunity and advertisers should be as explicit as possible. Include how applications should be made; it is fine to say 'No phone call, only email applications'.

  • Value: * - this is how much the opportunity is worth to an applicant. This value can be expressed as a day rate or a contract rate. Or of course it can be 'TBC' is no value is currently known.

  • Subject(s): - this is the topics/disciplines/learning that is to be achieved. Please be as explicit as possible; Improving productivity is a bit difficult to determine and should be in the Description. Six Sigma or Time Management are more specific. If you are unsure please say so and we can offer to help define the requirement.

  • Primary Sector: 'Or' Secondary Sector: -  this is used if you wish applicants to have experience or expertise in a specific sector. This facility is used to reduce the number of trainers that are notified of your opportunity. It does not necessarily reduce the number of trainers applying for the opportunity.

  • Primary Level: 'Or' Secondary Level: - this is used if you wish to be explicit about experience and expertise in delivery at particular levels within an organisation. This facility is used to reduce the number of trainers that are notified of your opportunity. It does not necessarily reduce the number of trainers applying for the opportunity.

The TOMS

The Trainer Opportunity Management System (TOMS) is an online facility whereby the first round of selection is conducted online within the TOMS. Advertisers can hide their contact details and applications are made into the TOMS for review and selection by the advertiser. Please feel free to read further information on the TOMS.

In addition to the above form fields there are 2 additional options:

  • Show Personal Details: - this Yes/No option allows you to hide your contact details. It should be used with caution as many trainers tell us that they will not apply to opportunities if they do not know something about the company. If you do decide to hide your contact details we strongly recommend that you complete the Edit company overview field in Edit Profile. This should contain general information about your company but not any contact details.

  • Review End Date: - this is the date that you expect to have completed the selection process. When this date is reached, any applications that have not been reviewed will be notified that you have completed the selection process and the applicant should consider themselves unsuccessful in their application.
