!*FIRSTNAME*!
Last week was a busy week for TrainerBase. We had our annual
Celebration at Holborn Bars and exhibited at Learning Technologies 2009.
Both events were highly successful.
Our Celebration
TrainerBase held a drinks and networking reception at Holborn Bars on
Tuesday 27th January. Guests invited included; the Architects of the
Standard, Founding Members, CLPs and others involved in the learning and
development arena.
The main focus of the event was to celebrate the development of the
TrainerBase Standard and to publicly recognise the Architects for their
contribution to the first and only 'occupational' standard for freelance
trainers. Jooli Atkins, Heather Girling, Mike Morrison, Mike Mortby,
Steve Rouse and Phil Wheeliker collected an award presented on the
night. Jan Brause, Dominic Demolder, Charlotte Mannion and Stephanie
Penning will also receive their awards. The achievement of ISO 9000:2001
certification was well received and congratulated.
The event was particularly positive as the TrainerBase team were able
to network with key personnel from organisations that are interested in
partnership arrangements. A number of further meeting have resulted from
the evening.
The word 'annual' has been used to describe this event and
TrainerBase is already making arrangements for 2010.
Learning Technologies 2009
Heather Girling, Barry Llewellyn and I manned a small stand at
LT2009. Boy was it busy. We were delighted to see so many users and
members of TrainerBase; it was great to put faces to names and offer
advice on making the most of the web site. The exhibition gave us an
opportunity to engage with practitioners in the more technical areas of
learning and development. As important was the number of purchasers of
training services that visited the stand. We have 60+ leads to follow up
in the next weeks including meetings with a number of organisations that
are interested in using TrainerBase as a search tool for freelance
trainers and The Standard and CLP as an assurance of professionalism. We
also have interest in TrainerBase assisting organisations with career
transition programmes (redundancy) for their internal trainers;
assisting them in becoming freelance.
Suffice to say; at both events, The Standard and the CLP
accreditation were well received. The recent achievement of ISO
9000:2001 certification for the setting of and accreditation against a
standard, will aid our endeavours to raise the level of competence and
professionalism in the market.
As I have been known to say 'Onwards and Upwards'.

Peter

A question for purchasers of training.
What will give you confidence that the freelance trainer you are
considering engaging will provide a return on investment or expectation?
The TrainerBase Standard
The TrainerBase Standard is the first ‘occupational’ standard
specifically developed to measure the full range of competence and
behaviours expected of an independent learning and development
practitioner. Purchasers have commented “This is long overdue”.
200 Years of Expertise
The TrainerBase Standard was drawn up by a highly experienced team of
learning and development professionals with close to 200 years of
combined expertise.
Proof of Competence
And this is why the TrainerBase Standard and the Certified Learning
Practitioner (CLP) accreditation is so beneficial to purchasers of
training: a CLP has proved that they are fully competent.
Essential Principles
The TrainerBase Standard has three Principles essential for purchaser
requirements:
- The Personal Principle covers ethical practice, effective
communication and relationship building and Professional
Development.
- The Operational Principle covers best practice from advice
through design and delivery to evaluation of learning activities and
processes.
- The Commercial Principle covers business planning, running a
commercial entity and monitoring ongoing business success.
Purchaser Confidence
Why are the Principles so important? Because you as a purchaser need
the confidence to engage with reliable competent professionals who have
evidenced that they know what they are doing.

Standard as a way of ensuring you meet your training objectives please
