The Association for Learning Practitioners

!*FIRSTNAME*!

The Trainers' Picnic

The 5th annual TrainerBase conference is exploring the challenges facing learning and development practitioners. And to make the learning environment more engaging, TrainerBase is relaxing the format and has chosen the Cotswolds as the location.

There is nothing so certain as change (who said that) and non more so than in today’s economic turmoil. Trainers, courseware developers and training advisers are being affected by a multitude of environmental factors that could change the way they operate both at a business level, or within the offering of their learning and development services. Some of these factors have been emerging for a while (coaching), whereas others appear to have arrived from way out of left field (twitter).

The TrainerBase Trainers’ conference is focusing this year on a number of these emerging challenges that all learning and development practitioners need to consider if they are to stay abreast if not ahead of the competition.

This year the conference itself is taking on a different, more engaging format and providing a relaxed and informal environment for the networking and CPD. Sponsored by Cotswold Conference Centre, the 2009 conference is heading outdoors.

Further information about the Picnic including session outlines and speaker biogs can be found on the TrainerBase.info site. Bookings are being made via the Shop. Do book early as we expect this event to sell out.

I and the rest of the TrainerBase team look forward to meeting with you and what is shaping up to be a very exciting, fun and rewarding conference.

As I have been known to say 'Onwards and Upwards'.

Regards

Peter

Opportunities

The part of 2009 has seen a significant increase in the number of opportunities being posted on to the site; averaging one per day. In particular we have seen an increase in opportunities either for work abroad (Middle East) and as far a field as China, or for work in the UK for foreign clients. Is this evidence that some parts of the world are not being affected by the current economic climate?

Opportunities posted recently include:

Please do be aware that some opportunities are posted and then removed before they appear in the weekly update. It is advisable to check the site periodically as I do not always send out alerts. If you know of a friend who would be interested in any of the opportunities posted on the site, please feel free to forward them this email (not give them details of the opportunities) and ask them to use this referral code when joining the site: - TB21!*USERID*!07. You will be rewarded for referring the friend.

When considering applying for an opportunity, members should check the requirements including; Subject, Sector Skills and Level Experience. If you do not match the requirement you should not apply for the opportunity, this practice is becoming very unpopular amongst purchasers and other trainers.

If you are interested in using this facility as a way of sourcing independent contractors but are not sure about the best way to approach it, please feel free to email info@trainerbase.co.uk.

Opportunities are restricted information for subscribers only and must not be distributed to non paying members or associate groups.

Raising the Standard

A question for purchasers of training.

What will give you confidence that the freelance trainer you are considering engaging will provide a return on investment or expectation?

The TrainerBase Standard

The TrainerBase Standard is the first ‘occupational’ standard specifically developed to measure the full range of competence and behaviours expected of an independent learning and development practitioner. Purchasers have commented “This is long overdue”.

200 Years of Expertise

The TrainerBase Standard was drawn up by a highly experienced team of learning and development professionals with close to 200 years of combined expertise.

Proof of Competence

And this is why the TrainerBase Standard and the Certified Learning Practitioner (CLP) accreditation is so beneficial to purchasers of training: a CLP has proved that they are fully competent.

Essential Principles

The TrainerBase Standard has three Principles essential for purchaser requirements:

  • The Personal Principle covers ethical practice, effective communication and relationship building and Professional Development.
  • The Operational Principle covers best practice from advice through design and delivery to evaluation of learning activities and processes.
  • The Commercial Principle covers business planning, running a commercial entity and monitoring ongoing business success.

Purchaser Confidence

Why are the Principles so important? Because you as a purchaser need the confidence to engage with reliable competent professionals who have evidenced that they know what they are doing.

Current CLPs

Purchasers of training and development services can be assured that the following members will meet agreed objectives.

Valerie Fawcett, Marion Parris, Melanie Lisney, Michelle McArthur, Kathey Bailey, Toni Johnson, Andrew Miller, Mike Mortby, Mike Morrison, Dominic Demolder, Charlotte Mannion, Heather Girling, Steve Rouse, Jooli Atkins and Jan Brause.

For more information on how you can adopt and use The TrainerBase Standard as a way of ensuring you meet your training objectives please call: 01239 711544 or visit www.trainerbase.co.uk/thestandard
